Mount Pleasant Storm - Midland Invitational Champions!

The Mt. Pleasant U11 girls (Storm) participated in the 25th Annual Midland Invitational over Mother’s Day weekend and walked away as champions. The girls battled both quality teams and wind over the two day event and finished with a perfect 4-0 record.
On Saturday the team faced an unknown commodity from Northville – The Nike Michigan Rush. We expected that the team would be well coached and consist of quality players; we were not disappointed. The Rush team was well skilled but could not hold off the strength and power of the Storm. Although the Storm took a 4-1 lead and controlled most of the game, the Rush fought back with some good play and narrowed the gap to a 4-3 final.
After a trip to the mall and the food court the girls were back on the field at 1:00 facing a team the Troy Blast. The Storm had faced the Blast in the Fall Midland tournament and won 2-1. The Storm took care of their business right away, never looking back, and winning with a decisive victory of 4-1.
Home for the night, back on Sunday for the Semi’s… The girls faced the Saginaw Hot Shots winning 4-1 and earning a spot in the championship game.
In the championship game the team was prepared to face Midland Green. Midland is a very strong team, which the Storm is well acquainted with, so we knew it would be a tough match. The Storm took the lead with a break through goal but Midland answered tying the game 1-1 at half time. With only two subs the girls were tired but knew they only had to dig deep for 30 more minutes. Not willing to give up, the Storm found the strength to pull ahead one more time. Midland threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Storm but the girls played tough defense and held on to the 2-1 victory.
Congratulations to the Storm (Freedom, Whitnee, Angeline, Katelyn, Tiffany, Shannon, Lauren, Ashley, Jenna, and Emma) on their tournament championship! Stay tuned for Petoskey and Saginaw…
